put on your own oxygen mask first

Another year has come to an end. I love this time of year, because I love fresh starts. I love fresh EVERYTHING. Just so you know, I don’t really believe in New Year’s resolutions. My goals in past years are usually to just be a better person, a better wife, a better friend a better mother. This year is all about health for me. If you’ve ever flown, you may remember hearing the flight attendant give the instructions, “In the event of an emergency…pressure will change…oxygen will be available…put on your own mask first…” The first time I heard these instructions as a parent, they seemed to go against my parenting instincts. Should an emergency arise, I thought, I will take care of my child first! But I quickly changed my line of thinking when I heard the reason behind the instructions: “so you have the oxygen you need to help others…” So this year I am going to try and eat for fuel not “just because,” walk daily and take care of “me” so I feel healthy and am good for others. I want to be a positive role model (ok, so I guess I am making resolutions). Spend more time reading, writing songs, taking photos, listening to music loud, traveling…these are the things that fill me up. The trick is knowing when to say “no”—and more importantly—when to say “yes” to the things that matter.

So there you have it. I have enjoyed 2011 and wanted to share some of my favorite photos and “moments” of the year. Thank you to all my clients for being so amazing and to all my creative buddies out there…I love ya. See you in 2012. This plane is about to take off. Fasten your seat belts.
